Make the most of your toast!

How do you have yours? Crunchy or smooth? With butter or without? Hot or cold? However you have your toast, you will be doing yourself a disservice if you weren’t applying lashings of your favourite Fix & Fogg Peanut Butter. The F&F journey started six years ago - two lawyers were making and selling peanut butter in local markets around Wellington until they decided to chuck in corporate life and dedicated themselves to ‘nut’ life.

National Geographic says these guys are ‘divine peanut butter makers’ and fortunately for many, its available for all to go nutty over - yep, they don’t just make our mornings in NZ, you can get your crunch on in Australia, USA, Singapore and the Philippines.

Fix and Fogg care about quality, they are ‘fairly obsessed’ on the nut butter spectrum and take no short cuts when it comes to creating their delicious, unique and innovative peanut butters. What a journey so far for the team, something tells me there is certainly a lot more exciting adventures yet to come…

Why are you doing what you do/motivation to start your business?

Andrea and I started Fix & Fogg six years ago when we were expecting our first child. Previously both lawyers, we made the choice to leave behind the corporate life and dedicate our time and energy to creating something meaningful, sustainable and delicious.

How did you decide on your brand/business name/any specific meaning behind it?

The name Fix & Fogg comes from two characters in the 1873 adventure novel by Jules Verne, Around the World in 80 days: Phileas Fogg and Detective Fix. Like the story, the idea of embarking on a great journey and trying new things resonated with us.

Biggest lesson you’ve learnt in business?

I’ve learnt so many lessons - and often the hard way - but I don’t know if I have a ‘biggest’ lesson. One that jumps to mind is the notion that ‘persistence beats resistance’. It’s so true for small businesses that you often need to keep plugging away time-and-time again to get where you want to go.

Got a tip for the best way to use/consume your product?

The Super Crunchy is the original member of the F&F family. On toast it's great with tomato, pickle and cracked pepper. You can also use it as a satay sauce for dinners or pop a dollop on your oatmeal for breakfast. Straight off the spoon is always a popular choice too.

What are some small things that make your day?

I love our tight-knit team here at F&F. We’re always pushing hard and trying new things … and overcoming challenges (lot of challenges). That idea of supporting each other means a lot to me.

What takes up too much of your time?

Meetings and admin tasks.

Favourite thing to do to relax/unwind?

I like hanging out with my wife and our two young kids. We’ll often go for a bush walk or a swim at Oriental beach when the weather is good.

What are you most grateful and thankful for in your life?

Family, friends and health.

If you could invite three famous people for cocktails and canapes - who would they be?

Alain de Botton, Kevin McCloud and (if I can chose people who are no longer alive) then the last person would be either the french sailor Bernard Moitessier or aviatrix Beryl Markham - two amazingly intrepid people.

You can find Fix and Fogg’s Super Crunchy Peanut Butter in our Crunchy Nut gift box here or, in our Build a Box range
