Escape to Magical Opua: Bay of Islands

When it comes to stunning scenery, views, and East Coast beaches, we are spoilt for choice in beautiful Northland. So discovering an equally outstanding and affordable luxury apartment that is Marina Cove in Opua, was the icing on the cake on a recent visit to the Bay of Islands.

Marina Cove provides the perfect base to explore Northland and its significant history, stunning scenery, ancient forests, endless hidden bays and beaches. Discover talented artists, delicious artisan food, fresh produce and locally produced wine .  I guarantee that in between exploring the region, you will lose track of time on your private deck by watching yet another boat drift by or if you are lucky, be mesmerised by majestic Orcas frolicking in the water directly below.

Hosts Mike & Wendy Fisher each have 30 plus years of experience in the travel and tourism industry. During this time, they have spent many years visiting and previously living in the Bay of Islands.

Opua is approximately 3 hours drive north of Auckland and is centred on an international port, marina and the wharf. A car ferry operates from Opua across the bay to the Port of Okiato and the road to historic Russell township. From Marina Cove it is an easy 5 minute walk to English Bay or Lemons Bay, which provide safe swimming and a relaxing place to take in the sun away from crowds. There is also easy access to the doggy friendly Opua-Paihia coastal walkway.

From Marina Cove it is just 15 minutes walk or a few minutes drive to the small community of Opua where you can enjoy a coffee or just sit and watch boats and the world go by. The community-focused Opua Cruising club is a perfect spot for a sunset drink or a great value meal with live music on the weekends.

I have to say the hospitality that Wendy and Mike exude is top notch. You are welcomed with a bottle of NZ wine and tasty cheese platter. The next morning we awoke to the smell of freshly baked bread at the door to enjoy with a scrumptious healthy continental breakfast featuring locally sourced produce such as homemade muesli and yoghurt, seasonal fruit, delicious honey, jams & condiments.

Like us, Mike and Wendy are passionate about promoting Northland, so we decided to partner up and offer a Bay of Islands Weekend Escape package that includes a Gratitude Gift box and a voucher for either one or two nights stay at Marina Cove’s luxury one bedroom apartment. An ideal weekend away for two or a gift for a loved one, anniversary or for that special corporate client.

So escape from your busy life and come to a place where you can truly unwind in absolute privacy and lose yourself in the unfiltered, breath-taking ocean & harbour views.  Where jaw dropping sunsets are expected and another spectacular sunrise is the norm.

Wendy and Mike look forward to welcoming you to their little slice of paradise and promise an experience which will leave you with fond memories of your time in the Bay of Islands.
